What is SSSTS course?

The SSSTS training course is intended for those who are, or are about to receive, management responsibilities in the construction industry. By completing this course, managers will be empowered to understand health and safety issues, and their legal obligations associated with their job responsibilities. It will highlight the need to promote health and safety so that they can be properly directed. You are eligible to participate in the SSSTS course if you are a manager, or have management responsibilities.

 

Who should take this SSSTS Course?

The SSSTS course is intended for all site managers working on building and is the first step in health and safety for all new managers or administrators. Working in this role, you have a legal and ethical obligation to all employees and visitors to the site. This means that you should be fully aware of all aspects of health and safety.

As a team manager, you are the first to contact if employees are concerned about the environment in which they work. This means that you need to be fully informed of all aspects of site security, regardless of the size of your teams.

What is the course composition?

 It will be a two day course which includes:-

 Day 1

 •             Health and Safety; risks with you, prevention risks, facts and statistics.

             Health and Safety and Director; health and safety law and various legal requirements.

             Risk assessment; why we do risk assessments, how we do risk assessments, and the sequence of controls.

             Health and safety management systems; how to develop, maintain and monitor a health and safety management system.

             Working at a high altitude; the key principles for working safely at a higher level.

•             Provision of First Aid; how to manage first aid and emergency site construction procedures.

 

Day 2

              Construction (Construction and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM); CDM rules and how they are used to support health and safety on site.

             Construction hazards; hazardous materials, asbestos, dust and smoke, noise and vibration,    safety signs, enclosures, excavations, and hand handling.
             Environmental awareness; pollution, waste, and to reduce boredom, noise, dust and light.
             Lifting operations and lifting equipment and plant and work equipment.
             Fire prevention and control; to identify high-risk fire hazards and to identify basic fire safety requirements on site.
             Health and Welfare; drugs and alcohol at work, and mental health awareness.
             Assessment: Please contribute two full days of study and present the toolbox talk to the entire   group.
 
         Upon successful completion of the SSSTS course the delegates assigned to the administration  will understand:
             why they do their specified tasks
             What is expected for them

             Ensure that they contribute to the safety of the workplace
